This picture was taken from my office. I have to climb out of the 42nd floor window and press the camera on one of the building's structure to reduce shake. It was scary all right when I looked down.

Thursday, November 25, 2004   Photographer Dosth
Yesterday I was introduced to 2 photo buffs. I of them I knew earlier to be interested in photography but he didn't really share it with me. I saw him after 4 months and he started to enquire about my photography activity. Then the other guy I didn't know had any interest in photography started to share his experience. He hates to take photos now but used to love it. So yesterday lunch time was spent talking about b&w photo, selling photos, competitions etc. Photographers come in many form; a) The pro- The guy who buy the latest and greatest piece of gear and shoot interesting pictures b) The poser- The guy who buy the latest and greatest piece of gear and shoot crap c) The amature- Buy reasonably priced camera and eager to improve and learn d) The undecided- want to get the best of everything for US$250 so he will wait for bargains. e) The Auto mode- The guy don't care about spec or function. He just shoots in auto mode and wants picture. I had developed some of the pictures I took since I bought my camera last year. This includes 2 panoramas. They came out well but when printed I feel the pictures lack some emotion compare to viewing then in the monitor. I forgot to bring them today to the office to show to the guys here. Will bring tommorow. Update: I didn't have the urge to take any photos this week, maybe because of the comming exams. Will try to be normal by next week.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004   Barber shop
After getting much needed sleep I woke up refreshed. Today I decided to change my hair style from side parking to no parking. Just combed my hair back. You see I have long hair. I had the side parking style since I was born.
I haven't visited the barber for about 3 months now. I don't go to saloons because I'm

a) not a metro sexual
b) it's cheaper at the Indian barber
c) Indian barber gives me a massage after the hair cut. I have tried many Indian barber shops. The earliest I could remember was in Port Dickson. The barber was a Christian Indian man. His sons also into the business at the shop. Their house was located at the back of the house which I did not now until I went for tuition in their house. The problem with Indian barbers is that they don't listen to you. They just cut some generic style even though you specifically said "not too short". The reason for this I guess is that their main customers are primary school Chinese student whose average hair length is 1.5cm. So when I say “not too short” it means “I’m going for police training cut my hair” to the barber. Next I tried a Chinese shop. I usually go there together with a friend. This guy is ok but he does extra by cleaning people’s ears after giving them a shave. I never had a shave at his shop. After that I moved back to the Christian Indian guy. His sons took over the shop. Female lingerie on the magazine rack. It always burns when I shower after having a hair cut there. No skill. Sometimes they even cut my ear. Accidentally of course. I didn’t take it seriously, AIDS awareness was low at that time. Then I moved to my current place Klang and began hunting for a Indian barber. My dad introduced me to his barber when he was a kid. That guy was like 70 years old but with a steady hand. Living alone, he knows my grandfather and the whole family. He passed away after a couple of years. After trying out other barber shops I settled down with one near my house. I had my first barber shave there. Now I know why they message your neck after a shave. There is only one competent guy there that listens to you before touching your hair. Big demand for him on weekends. The rest of the people there treat your hair like it's their playground. On one occasion because of my 7 years bad luck, I got the other guy, who went on to cut my ear. Accidentally of course! Now I cut my hair myself.

Monday, November 22, 2004   Need sleep
Man I’m so tired I want to go back. I didn’t get my normal sleep because I was studying for exam. Now I don’t have any mood to study or take picture. In fact this is the first time in about 1 month I didn’t bring my camera with me. I need about 8 hours of sleep. For some people 8 hours is too much. They say it will make you lazy. I’m not lazy I just need a lot of sleep. I’ll get really grumpy if I don’t have any good sleep. I can’t think properly if I don’t have any sleep. I need sleep. Just after I wrote this I went to the pantry to make myself a drink. Instead of pouring hot water to make the hot chocolate drink I poured cold water! It took me a second to realize what happened.

I'm getting good at Photoshop curves! Images that i thought should end up in the recycle bin have been rescued. For example this picture of my dinner I had in Genting Highlands. Before adjustment you cannot make up the items on the plate now it's good for 4R! Don't waste food.

Canon A70| Photoshop Curves|
I took this picture in Genting Highlands, a popular hill resort in Malaysia. About 2 km in elevation, it has lots of amusement park and Malaysia's only casino. It was very hard to get this picture because of the bright sky and dark foreground. You only can get one properly exposed. I went for the sky.

Monday, November 15, 2004   Wild flower

Canon A70 Macro| Photoshop Sharpen,Crop|
Shot this while waiting for my MTB partner to arrive. Shot another one with a bug on the flower but the bug's position was not interesting. I want to capture bees on flowers. Almost did yesterday but got the settings of my camera wrong. Have been capturing this sort of pictures throught out the holidays while mountain biking. Want to try something different. Tried to capture the Deepavali mood in town but failed miserably. I don't know, I'm just not comfortable with crowds and let me tell you it so crowded, extra security force have to be deployed there.

Found shops selling boxed Rangoli kolam sets. Inside they have double sided stickers you stick on the floor. Then take the colored rice and sprinkle them on the side facing you.

Monday, November 08, 2004   Deepavali Countdown

Canon A70
Canon A70

Most of the time I'll be in Deepavali mood on the eve when mom start doing last minute decorations and we rally along her involuntarily. This year the mood came early because of my friday lunch mates. I started to go out with them about a month ago. We usually go to a place called Brickfields where they have lots of Indian businesses. You can find all kinds of interesting items there for Deepavali. Thinkin about buying some oil lamps but I cannot celebrate Deepavali because one of my relative passed away this year. So I 'celebrate' Deepavali my own way by taking Deepavali pictures.
